New Zealand Mud Snails
New Zealand mud snails, a nonnative mollusk that has the potential to devastate California's trout fisheries, have been found in Hot Creek and elsewhere in the Owens River watershed, and more recently in Putah Creek and the the Mokelumne River. It's up to all of us anglers to be informed about this pest. At the very least, check out Ralph Cutter's web page about 'em (you can find the link in the "Conservation Issues" section of the Cal Fly Fisher "Links" page.
Snails
First, glad to see your new homepage and this board! I've been a fan of the magazine since the "free" days and look forward to reading more stuff from you, Richard. About the snails, I have been following the story and while I have seen some alarming numbers describing the snails' rate of spread and voraciosness, I haven't seen much data on their impact on fisheries themselves. Does anyone know of a good source for this?
Swing that thing!
