I can't find the article from last years "Ca FF" but I did find where I copied the chart. Do I support the base of the rod at a point other than the handle? All rods seem to be more than a little "light", which of course is possible. Thanks in advance, may not be on-line for a week or so.

Jeff, FYI, the article appeared in the Jan/Feb '04 issue, not in 2003.

Jeff:

The idea is to support the rod handle where you would normally place your hand. Just put the rod handle on a shelf/table/WMD and place a copy of War and Peace and the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary on top of it. If necessary, shim the handle to get the section of blank right in front of the grip level. A spirit level really helps here.

You are now ready to add post 1996 pennies to the tip.

have fun,

Rob

Does the "action" of the rod have any bearing on the results?

Sorry I missed your post.

As far as action is concerned; no it does not alter the results of the deflection component of the CC test. A slow action 9 foot rod that bends 30" with 50 pennies has the same intrinsic power as a fast action 9 ft rod that bends 30" with 50 pennies. The slow rod just bends in a ) shaped curve when compared to the more pronounced j shape of the faster rod.
