Their are big Trout swimming in the waters of the famous Sugar Creek Ranch in NorCal. One of the preferred flies there is a large, weighted crawfish pattern in size #4 or #6. I wanted to create just such a crawfish fly using commonly available tying materials. I made extensive use of Loon's UV Knot Sense as a bonding agent, along with the aid of a 6 Watt UV dental Blue cure lamp and special protective eyewear. This process enabled me to fashion claws and tails easily from Cree Shoulder feathers and attach them to Ice Yarn "appendages" using the Loon UV light curing material. Here are the results of the initail tying session.
There is 12 inches of square, lead wire wrapped along the underbody, and a pair of weighted dumbell eyes; which allows this fly to ride hook-up. The hook is a 4X long, 2X strong Daiichi X220 X-Point. This fly is designed to be thrown on an 8Wt rod using a sinking line.
