My wife and I fished the Trinity River near Junction City on Tuesday, 11/28/06. It was freezing cold, having snowed for the previous three days. Air temp. in the AM was in the 20's. As a result the water was cold and the fishing was very slow. Our guide did not believe in egg patterns or indicators ("If you want to bobber fish, fish with somebody else."). Finally, about 3 PM, I caught my first ever steelhead (see photo). It took about 15 minutes on a 6 Wt. We were fishing a leach pattern called "Pimp" on sinking tip line. I was so excited that, for the first time that day, I wasn't cold and stayed warm well into the evening. This was my second time steelhead fishing; we caught nothing the first time. But after this fish I think I'm hooked.
The next 10 days or so are supposed to be great weather. Give the Trinity a try.
