The midges are hatching & the trout are biting. Water temp up to 53 degr with midges hatching around 10 am. Boulder Bay & the west end of the lake are producing 16 - 22" trout slow trolling #4 - #8 black buggers. Some fish are starting to rise but most still cruising & feeding off the bottom.Work the west sides first thing in the morning then the east side of the bays as the sun rises. Stomach samples still showed some daphnia but also #16 midge larve. Got one that jumped 6 times & made 3 runs before coming to the net. Boat patrol is out, have your $5 daily fee ready. Long leaders & light tippetts will get more fish. ...You can lead a man to fish, but you can't make him catch them.....Float that tube!!

Thanks for the update on the lake.
About the $5.00 fee... where can I purchase it. Do they open early or is the day before a must to fish early the next morning?

They carry permits right on the boat, both daily & yearly. Just put some $ in your vest. If you're planning on coming up at least 5 times, get the yearly for $25. The last time we were out, boat patrol came by & didn't check. It just depends on whose working that day.

I got to get up to Big Bear more often.
The haul to Mammoth twice a year is not enough fly fishing for nice trout.
I love the Red and Black Burger, I have had a lot of luck useing a sink tip line 7 foot leader.
Wow I got the fishing bug now.
