Bringing my son down to a football camp in mid July, don't really want to watch him run up and down a field for four days straight, how bout one day plying the so cal waters, but of coarse have no clue of where to go being from the bay area and all.

Any help would be appriciated

There are two possibilities for you--the ocean or the San Gabriel River. The ocean is very close to where you'll be. Take one of the canyon roads down to the beach, rig up your eight weight and throw some streamers in the surf for surf perch, halibut or corbina. The other choice is to fight a little traffic and drive about 1 1/2 hours on the 101 to the 134 to the 210 to Azusa, go north into the canyon about 45 minutes and hit the West Fork San Gabriel River. Right now it is very small water with both stocker and wild rainbows. Best used on a three weight or lighter. It will be hot in that canyon, but fun for a little a little fun. My opinion is hit the beach.
