Fly Fishing San Diego Surf

Postby Charlie Shockley » Sun Aug 20, 2006 12:45 pm

Hi guys, Has anyone ever flyfished the surf between Del Mar and Torrey Pinses State Beach. Any luck? what rigs do you use or suggest. Looking for Pearch, Corbina or small bass?

Thank You,

Charlie Shockley :)
The one that got away, lots of them got away from me.

I hope to do just that over Labor Day. Have you gone yet? All I know is that about 6 weeks ago I was surfing in that area and saw TONS of fish. Corbina, bat rays, guitar rays. Once, years ago, from the cliffs, I watched a school of yellowtail blast through (far off of the beach). I also once saw an impressive shark from high up; just beyond the srufers at Black's. Anyway, let us know how you do. I'll do the same.

ADDENDUM: I hear timing a fishing trek for the first low tide after a grunion run is good. Big halibut loaded with food are slow to return to deeper water and can be targeted.
