Hi
My name is Robert.
A few years ago I took my Grandfathers one of a kind bamboo rod to a guy who was starting a new magazine and built and repaired bamboo rods. I think his name is Metcalf ?
He seemed nice enough but he shut his doors and disapeared, along with my rod. I desperately want my family heirloom back. My daughter is starting to fish with me and I want to pass it on her. his 'great-grandaughter'.
Can anybody out there help me locte this guy?
His shop was in Orange, CA. It was next to Mike Scott's 'hackle, tackle and flies'.
Thank you,
Robert.

I sympathize -- I know a writer who traded a story to some bamboo fly-rod magazine in return for restoration of his bamboo rod, and, if I recall correctly, never got the rod back.

The first thing I would do is a Google search using "bamboo fly rod magazine." It might generate some leads.

Truly a sad state of affairs... I feel for your loss. Maybe a check on ebay for bamboo rods for sale may lead you back to this guy. Matt

Richard, Matt:
Thank you for your input. Ive checked around a little and came up with their old web site. Search for "Bamboo Fly Rod Magazine".
The site is up but it looks deserted.
Richard, can you put your writer friend and me together? It sounds very close to the same situation.
Thanks again,
Robt

On a sad note the Bamboo fly rod Mag -Repair/restoration stated above has hpse more people than Xavier Hollander and has not been found to be held accountable . I know of at least 6-7 people besides myself. I was lucky enough to get most of my rod back !
