I tie flies way more than I fish; and that means I end up storing a lot of flies. When I do go fishing, half the time I can't find the flies I need because I pack them away in sealed boxes; usually inside RubberMaid tubs. It is a hassle to open-up all of the boxes and try to remember which box has those stone flies. In general, organizing flies is a chore for me.

I took a chance on a bargain bin sale and bought one of these Bags:

It cost less than $10.00. It sold for around forty bucks originally and is their Magnum Size bag. It is huge (12" X 12" X 8") and has a bunch of clear, heavy duty zip-locks in it. There are 10 each full size pouches and 5 each smaller, divided twin pouches (not shown below) Guess what fits in these zip-pouches

For one thing, there is a place to store all the tippet dispensers! I like that.

And each zip-pouch will accommodate several small fly boxes. What is really cool, IMHO, is that this "Fly Vault" system allows you to store the fly boxes opened and instantly see exactly what is in each one. Now were talking!

Even the bigger flyboxes will fit easily in a pouch. Now if a fly happens to be dislodged during transit-it is still trapped inside the zip-pouch-so no problem. If you really have a lot of boxes, then each zip-pouch will hold two large fly boxes if you close them up. Then you would have to rely on labels on the boxes to sort them out. This vault will hold 20 fly boxes and hundreds of flies.

I now have all ten pouches full of boxes and can find any fly and type in about 30 seconds. I am lucky to have discovered this little bargain gem.

This tackle storage bag is a bass fisherman's bag and meant to hold spinner baits, worms, weights and terminal tackle. Hopefully a fly gear company will figure this out and put out a new product. Bet it won't be ten bucks though

Hey, not bad! And I like your idea of storing fly boxes open in clear bags. Should make searching for the right box(es) that much easier....
