never tried to hike in and see if there's anything there. there used to be the hatchery at the locale you describe... but i understand that its gone now. didn't think that enough fish could survive naturally there during the summer... since i thought is was just a trickle at that point. don't think ...

have you thought about surf fishing? there are a bunch of folk that hit the surf with the flies. beside the scarcity of users on this board. the fliflicker board is pretty good source of info. and i think the fly shops in SD can help out. a recent CA flyfisher article had some info on surf fishing. ...

funny you mention butterflies. i was in las vegas over the weekend. (no fishing but the * was pretty good) on the way out and back, we kept running into swarms of butterflies all along i-15. i felt bad about them splattering on my windshield but..... it was also a hell of a wash job to get them off....

yeah, that was me. it was a pretty slow day. probably the weather more than anything else. we got there aroung 9:30. left the lake around 1, and had lunch. nothing like a Carl's Jr double western cheeseburger to take the chill off. lol :wink: don't really get to fish hard when i have my son with me ...
