Did you try the Sport Chalet on Foothill Boulevard in La Canada? That store has the best selection and the most knowledgeable staff of all the Sport Chalet stores. There is also Orvis on S. Lake Avenue in Pasadena. Then there's the Fisherman's Spot on Burbank Boulevard in Van Nuys. Finally, there is...

Poaching and Theft

I have resolved to take a notepad and a pen to write down the make, model and license plate numbers of the vehicles parked near me when I go fishing. I can't imagine this would take more than a couple of minutes. I will do this in case I return to find my car vandalized or if I run into poachers on ...

I might even consider taking everything out of my glove compartment (registration, insurance, etc.) placing it in the trunk (my car has a lock on the trunk release). I'd leave my glove compartment and center arm rest compartment OPEN and I'd even roll all my windows DOWN so anyone can easily look in...

I was well acquained with Paul. I would stop by Sport Chalet at least a couple times a week after work and often Paul would be working and we'd just talk shop for a few minutes before I'd head on home. We had been trying to coordinate our schedules for about a year to go fishing together, but it nev...

Nice photos of nice fish.

I've tubed PVR several times with mixed success. While I've caught the biggest rainbow in my life there (24") I've also been known to spend three days getting skunked.

I like to fish below the power house for the small browns after they shut off the flow until dark.

You'll do fine with the basics: tan or brown elk hair caddis, parachute adams, even a yellow humpy in sizes 14-16. You can also try hanging a size 16 nymph such as a gold ribbed hares ear, a soft hackle pheasant tale, or even a tiger midge on a dropper 12 or 15 inches below your dry. Be certain to s...

Hi Keith!

Quick question: Is there any reason not to just fish from the kayak or canoe rather than towing and switching to a float tube? I've never fished from a kayak; is it just too difficult to keep yourself in position without having fins in the water?

I have bought annual passes for several years. I was hopeful that the Adventure Pass program would keep the forests cleaner and lessen the amount of graffitti and vandalism. I presumed that a "user fee" would send the rotten litterbugs and graffitti vandals that spoil so many of the streams in the A...

Tigers and Zebras

It's been my understanding that a Tiger Midge is one that is wrapped in copper or gold wire, with or without a gold bead, and that a Zebra midge is one that is wrapped in silver wire or white thread, with or without a silver or glass bead. In other words, gold/yellow wire wraps = Tiger; silver/white...
